Mapping place through image, words, and music.

Originally created as a community engagement project for the Big Ears Festival, City Songs is an exercise in creative cartography. We work with local writers and music makers to document, score, and map place-based memories and sense impressions. We surface how a city can be a container for the many stories of its citizens. Tethered to the sites that inspired them, these stories become a new way to navigate the terrain we move through.

City Songs is produced by a small collaborative of community artists, musicians, and filmmakers who believe in the power of place.

The Knoxville City Songs was made possible with financial support from the  Hobson Wood Foundation ,  the Aslan Foundation ,  the City of Knoxville , and the  Tennessee Arts Commission . It received in kind support from Knoxville Community Media.
